So here is my lovely Christmas story.
It's almost 9:30, we're about 10 minutes away from sitting down to eat Christmas dinner, my mom had just put on the beans, and the doorball rings. I assume it's someone for me, so I go answer it.
There is a guy at the door saying that there is a cocker spaniel looking dog standing in the middle of the street. He'd been visiting some relatives in the upper part of the court and was on his way back home to Sacramento, and he was wondering if we knew which one of the neighbors it belonged to.
Long story short, this cocker spaniel-looking dog does not belong to anyone on our street. She is an old (I'd guess about 13-15), deaf, skinny, and timid little dog with a bad hip, and she jumps when you touch her, as if she's expecting to get hit. She's extremely dirty, smells terrible, and is full of ticks. Moreover, she's an indoor girl, and is completely lost.
Because she's so filthy and we don't know what she has (ticks and fleas at the very least), we can't bring her inside (parent's rules) and it would not be a good idea to keep her in the backyard/garage with Sydney (my dog). So as of right now, she's out on our front porch. She's got blankets and food, a box, and dry place to stay, so she's comfortable and becoming a little more relaxed, but she's a mess. Really.
The Humane Society in Vallejo is not open on Mondays, so we don't have a place to take her until Tuesday.
The main purpose of my writing this is because I'm trying to find out if anyone's heard anything about a missing dog, or whatnot. I'm hoping she doesn't have a past history of being abused, but she is remarkably timid, docile, and jumpy (in the sense of jumping when afraid), so yeah. We're not really sure exactly what to do with her. If by any chance you're interested in her, please talk to me. We're still planning on taking her to the Humane Society at this point, but yeah.
EDIT: She stayed the night and was looking much more chipper this morning, but she left. Which is okay, I guess. We weren't actively trying to keep her, especially because there wasn't much we could do with her. But she at least now knows a friendly place where she can get food so she may be back. If you see her though, please let me know/help her out a bit.
